How Daniel Met His Friends

Daniel's Lesson

by Trish Smith

Daniel was, the most loving, sweetest well balanced and adjusted dog that comes once in a lifetime. I was blessed to spend 12 years with him.  He gave such joy.  People would say he seemed more human than dog.
He was intentional…he sought out relationships, wanting that special bond with his humans and doggie sibs. He was a social dog, spending time with his humans and sibs made him happy. He loved having doggie sibs.. he loved community..  He wouldn’t have been happy as an only dog.
He accepted life as it came with a calm happy attitude.  He took life in stride… didn’t rush anything! He walked with a calmness, interacted with people calmly,  even ate sowly enjoying his food 😊
If he was in a situation where he preferred his circumstances were different, he would remain centered and patient, waiting until things changed. He somehow knew when he could affect change and when it was best to be patient. He was fortunate to have been allowed by his first family to make decisions around the farm from a young age. This built confidence and balance. He remained true to himself.  He didn’t get flustered or anxious.
His happy soulful personality endeared him to all he met. When he saw people, his nub of a tail would wiggle, he would make eye contact and charm everyone he met. He made people smile just being himself.
He innately knew that showing respect to humans and other dogs was the best decision.  He engaged politely. If he wanted your attention, he would look at you and wait until you noticed.  I could feel him looking at my back.  If I wasn’t noticing soon enough, he might use his paw gently to touch my leg.
With his doggie sibs and other dogs, he approached the same.. polite, playfully, respectfully.. Never bossy, saw the advantage of  staying centered, backing off when needed. He had the size to intimidate, but that wasn’t his style.  He preferred to use his charm. However if needed, he took up for himself. He stayed true to himself.
He took care of his needs:  Being in nature fed his soul so he had his spots in the yard he enjoyed.
He was a thinker, he accessed situations and made decisions based on his intel.  Didn’t rush
He was supportive of dog sibs, if they wanted to sit at the base of a tree for an hour waiting for a racoon to appear, he stayed for support. (My third dog would move on very quickly…. She had no patience 😊 ) There’s a photo of Daniel and Sweetie sitting staring at a tree…they stayed here for well over an hour.
He was generous to his feathered friends. 😊 see video of mama bird using his hair to build her nest. LOL
He dreamed big… HA HA see video of him sleeping and dreaming.
It was the small things in life that made him happy like taking naps, playing with his sibs or playing with a squeaky carrot.  See videos.
He was a team player… see video of the teamwork between my 3 dogs when digging their way to an animal.
Even in his late years when I know his body was tired and wearing down, and grumpiness would be understandable, he remained happy, loving, joyful.

Vision

We envision a world where every dog rests in safety, wakes to love, and runs freely in a place called home, a compassionate community where hearts are open, hands are kind, and happiness lives in every wag of the tail.

Mission

At Daniel & Friends Dog Rescue, our mission is to be love in action, to rescue the lost, heal the broken, and guide each dog home to safety, trust, and joy. We offer refuge for the abandoned and hope for the forgotten, standing beside our community to build bridges of compassion that change lives, one heartbeat at a time.
